Vedanta company on Monday handed over the second instalment of compensation to Mayem farmers, who suffered losses after mining silt had entered their farms.
Bicholim Mamlatdar Gurudas Desai handed over the compensation cheque of Rs 54 lakh to All India Kissan Vikas Morcha (AIKVM) Goa Unit President, Kamlakant Gadekar.
It may be recalled that Mayem farmers had agitated on three occasions under the banner of AIKVM to demand compensation.
Following their agitation, they were paid the first instalment of Rs 54 lakh on December 16, while the second instalment of Rs 54 lakh was paid on Monday.
