After a war of words over the Constitution, BJP and Congress file complaints against each other

PANAJI

The Congress party today lodged a formal complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and several other BJP figures for allegedly spreading misinformation about its South Goa candidate Viriato Fernandes.

The complaint, submitted to Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Verma, alleges misinterpretation of a speech by Fernandes, a war veteran who served during the Kargil War.

In the three-page written complaint, Congress President Amit Patkar pointed that Fernandes' speech was twisted and misinterpreted in a way that it indicates disrespect towards the Indian Constitution.

Patkar also accused PM Modi of maliciously projecting Fernandes' speech was disrespectful towards the Constitution during a speech in Chhattisgarh, and hence demanded immediate action against PM Modi, CM Sawant, and other BJP leaders including BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Minister Mauvin Godinho, MLA Sankalp Amonkar, MLA Daji Salkar, and BJP spokesperson Damodar Naik.

The complaint comes merely days after BJP filed a complaint against Fernandes for an anti-constitutional remark while demanding the termination of his candidature.
