Margao municipality will have a new Chief Officer – the 19th Chief Officer to be posted at the A Class civic body in the last 10 years.

A notification issued by the government stated that the government has divested Additional Collector-II, South, Y B Tawde of his additional charge as Chief Officer of the Margao Municipal Council. The government has now posted Siddhivinayak Naik, Member Secretary Goa State Commission for Women as the new MMC Chief Officer by relieving Tawde of his duties.

Siddhivinayak Naik is the 19th government official to take charge as Chief Officer of the Margao Municipal Council and the second CO to be posted at the civic body this year. Incidentally, Tawde was posted to the civic body around six months ago when the government relieved then Chief Officer Naveen L S, IAS, who was relieved of his duties after presiding over the MMC administration for six months.

Interestingly, of the 19th Chief Officers who have presided over the Margao Municipal Administration over the last 10 years, outgoing Chief Officer was posted to the civic body on as many as six different occasions during the last one decade.

The posting of a new Chief Officer to the Margao civic body is expected to give relief to the newly elected body given that Tawde was holding charge of three different positions, but questions remain how many months will the new Chief Officer put in the A Class civic body as the newly-elected body headed by Dr Babita Angle Prabhudesai has set out the process of toning up the municipal administration.
