Backstabbing by minority leaders on Romi Konkani

JERRY FERNANDES, Saligao | 28th July, 06:58 pm

A private member's resolution moved by Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira urging the introduction of Romi Konkani in Goa's school curriculum was defeated in the Legislative Assembly last Friday with 24 members voting against and only six in favour. Well, this resolution would have easily been won if the minority community leaders from the BJP like Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Babush Monserate, Jennifer Monserate, Joshua D'Souza, Nilesh Cabral, Aleixo Sequeira, Mauvin Godinho, Rudolf Fernandes and independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco had backed/supported this move and the final result would have definitely been 16 in favour and 14 against.  Unfortunately, they did not do so but went on to backstab their own community. Doesn't the ruling BJP government know that the Christian community uses Roman script in their day-to-day affairs i.e. in religious services in churches, during correspondence, while reading newspapers, while writing tiatrs/books, printing wedding/other types of invitation cards etc in Goa? Then why is it refusing to introduce the same in the school curriculum in Goa? Well, the BJP government, despite of knowing the above fact has clearly shown how much it really cares for the well-being of the Christian community in the state.
