Recently the portion of the false ceiling in the western music classroom at Kala Academy collapsed due to poor workmanship. The ceiling collapsed at the entrance of the room, but no one was injured in the incident. The ceiling collapsing or a portion of it falling down is generally considered poor workmanship. It's a serious safety hazard. A ceiling should be built to withstand normal loads and environmental conditions. Citizens cite the poor quality of restoration work and inadequate repairs at the Kala Academy. KA has been in the news since 2021 when the government decided to renovate the structure designed by the late architect Charles Correia amidst claims of rampant corruption, to the point where CM Pramod Sawant had to order a vigilance inquiry. There needs to be an structural audit for the recent completed repair works at the complex. But what was once a symbol of pride has now become a site of deep concern and losing its sheen due to government mismanagement.
