Awareness meet on mega  projects held in Majorda

Goencho Ekvott organized an awareness programme for the villagers of Majorda and surrounding villages on Sunday which was attended by hundreds of concerned villagers.

Local Panch member and Chairman of Goencho Ekvott Creson Antao conveyed Dussehra greeting on behalf of the association. He explained to the villagers the details of land acquisition planned in Majorda village. Huge tracts of agriculture land is planned to be acquired in Majorda, in the proximity of schools, college & perennial water bodies for the purpose of laying numerous railway tracks and probably for coal handling.

Capt Viriato Fernandes enlightened the audience on the MPT ‘Master Plan’ to make Goa a coal Hub. He further spoke on the 'Sagarmala projects' which if implemented will have a devastating effect on Goa’s tourism based economy which directly or indirectly supports nearly 60% of the population.

Dr Fr Bolmax Pereira (Bol Perry) spoke on the 'Deforestation of the Western Ghats and it's effects on our water resources'. He reminded the administration that we are for sustainable development and not for destructive development.

Jose (Raju) Cabral stated that the people of Salcete stretching from Margao to Nagoa and further to Loutolim will be the most affected since the major construction works for the railways and the highways to facilitate the transportation of coal for private enterprises to the hinterlands of Karnataka and Maharashtra respectively.
