The budding singers from Goa won 12 prizes in different categories at the finals of the Portuguese Song Contest ‘Vem Cantar’ organised by the Fundação Oriente in India and the heritage cell of the Rosary College, Navelim at Kala Academy. The contest was held in two categories – solo and group. The winners in the group category were Melodia do Sol (Par do Sol), Rouxinois (Cancao do mar) and Tuna Academica de Universidade de Goa (Lisboa de agora) who won the first, second and the third prize respectively. The three winners in the age group 8-11 are Xiyan Almeida (Ja passou) first prize, Samara Menezes (Minha vez) second prize and Quinton Costa (Querida mae) consolation prize. In the 12-15 year age group, Ronan Valadares (Lisboa menina e moca) won the first prize, Valentino Alvares (Ledozinho) bagged the second prize and Liezel Fernandes (Lisboa) pocketed the consolation prize. In the teenagers of 16 years and above Vrutha Karmali (O gente da minha terra) received the first prize, Neil Saldanha (Quem me ve) got the second prize and Annalee Menezes (Filho azul) was given the consolation prize.
