MARGAO: Calangute Veterans edged past Verna Veterans 2-1 in an exciting encounter at Dando Ground, Benaulim.
From the outset, Calangute displayed their attacking intent, with Robert Fernandes and Seby Vaz linking up effectively. Their efforts bore fruit in the 18th minute when Seby Vaz fired Calangute into the lead.
After the break, Verna responded with determination, pressing hard for an equalizer. However, Calangute’s goalkeeper, Seby, stood strong, making crucial saves to thwart Verna’s attempts.
Calangute doubled their advantage in the 30th minute, with Robert Fernandes adding a second goal to make it 2-0. Verna, undeterred, fought back and pulled one goal back in the 38th minute through Caitan, making it 2-1. Despite Verna’s relentless pressure in the second half, Calangute’s solid defense and excellent goalkeeping ensured they held on for the victory.
