MARGAO: Domestic workers in Goa have renewed their demand for legal recognition, minimum wages and welfare benefits during the observance of International Domestic Workers Day at the Holy Spirit Church Hall, Margao. Organised by the National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Goa Region, the event brought together around 220 workers from across the state. Speakers highlighted the challenges faced by domestic workers and called for stronger legal protection and social security measures.

Among the key demands submitted to the Goa Government were the establishment of a State Domestic Workers Welfare Board, revision of minimum wages, recognition of domestic work as formal employment, free bus passes for workers travelling for employment and inclusion under welfare schemes. Union leaders Sarita Tirkey, Christopher Fonseca and Graciyan urged workers to remain united and strengthen the movement.
