MARGAO
The ‘Mission Political Reservation for Schedule Tribes of Goa’ in association with all Goa Scheduled Tribe organisations will observe the ‘Martyrs Day’ on the 12th death Anniversary of Dilip Velip and Manguesh Gaonkar who were martyred on May 25 2011 in the infamous Balli agitation.
Mission president John Fernandes informed that on May 25, members of the ST community from across the State will assemble at ‘Lohia Maidan’, Margao to pay homage to the late tribal youth leaders Dilip and Manguesh.
The ST leaders have decided to sit for a hunger strike at Lohia Maidan on May 25 morning and the community members from across Goa will join them later at 3.30 in the evening.
The hunger strike will be followed by a ‘Chitan & Manthan’ programme wherein the intellectuals from the community will shed light on the present status of all the 12 demands of the community that were raised by the alliance. “During this meeting, we will analyse what community have lost and gained in the past 12 years after the supreme sacrifice of our late youth leaders Dilip Velip and Manguesh Gaonkar,” John said.
