Margao-based social activist Andrew Sequeira staged a dharna in front of the Margao Municipal building on Tuesday to protest against the functioning of the Municipal engineers in addressing public grievances. He pointed out that residents of Aquem near the Costa factory had signed a memorandum objecting to the setting up of the proposed car wash facility in their neighbourhood. He said the residents were expecting the Margao Municipal Council to conduct an inspection to ascertain the facts and to initiate action. Sequeira, however, said that the concerned Junior engineer demanded that the residents should come with a vehicle to take engineers for site inspection as per the prevailing custom.What has agitated the social activist was that the MMC sent him a letter for a site inspection scheduled on March 23. “The residents did not receive the letter on March 23. This only goes to show that the engineers are hand in gloves with the project proponent”, he said, while demanding an inquiry into the episode.
