MPs laud Goa’s heritage and sustainability at Big Foot museum

PANAJI: Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment visited the Big Foot museum in Loutolim on World Environment Day and took part in a tree-planting programme. The delegation was led by committee chairperson P. C. Mohan and included MPs Bhojraj Nag, Bhaskar M. Bhagara, Chintamani Maharaj, Geeta alias Chandraprabha Shakya, Tapan Kumar Mondal and Ramji Gautam.

During the visit, the members were introduced to exhibits showcasing how Goan communities lived sustainably over a century ago by using eco-friendly materials and reusing resources. They also appreciated the museum’s preservation of Goa’s cultural heritage and viewed the laterite rock relief sculpture of Sant Mirabai created by Maendra Alvares.

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the MPs and other dignitaries planted fruit-bearing saplings. MP Geeta Shakya dedicated her tree to her mother and encouraged people to plant a tree in honour of their mothers. The tree-planting initiative was organised by Big Foot Museum founder Maendra Alvares to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
