MARGAO: With the monsoon approaching, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday reviewed the ongoing construction of a retaining wall at Alto Monte, Margao, along with local residents. Residents, led by Mario Pinto, had approached Kamat last year after a minor landslide raised concerns about the safety of a nearby residential building.
The retaining wall is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh. Kamat said the government intervened following the landslide to safeguard residents and prevent further erosion. He noted that the hillside had been cut during the construction of the buildings without adequate protection measures. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, Kamat said the work is expected to be completed within the next 10 days.
