The Village Panchayat of St Andre (Goa Velha) is the first and the only village panchayat in North Goa and the second in the state of Goa to be nominated as the women friendly panchayat by the Directorate of Panchayats and Ministry of Panchayati Raj New Delhi. The Women’s Day was celebrated on March 7 by organizing Mahila Gram Sabha in which large number of women attended. As an initiative towards women’s hygiene health sanitary pad vending machine and sanitary pad disposal incinerator machines were installed and made operational. A pickle making competition was also organized which saw 21 women with different varieties of pickles participating and prizes were awarded to the best three. As a token of appreciation gift hampers were distributed to all participants. All women VP members, VP Secretary and staff were also felicitated.
