Catholic Association of Goa gets new president

Cyril Aleixo Fernandes has been elected as the new President of the Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) for the next two years. The CAG acts as a body representing the Catholics of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. It is recognised by the office of the Archbishop of Goa. It works to promote and protect the rights and interests of the members of the catholic community in Goa and was formed in the year 1990. At the Annual General Body meeting held at Maquinez Palace office of the CAG at Panaji. Fernandes was declared elected as President unopposed at the elections held. Other office bearers elected were Pelagia Pires (Vice-President-North Goa), Melwyn Thomas Fernandes, (Vice-President, South-Goa) and Joven Stephen Fernandes as Treasurer. Graciano Gomes was chosen as the Honorary Secretary General at the Meeting. Fr Anthony Fernandes continues to be the Ecclesiastical Advisor appointed by the Archbishop of Goa. Outgoing President of CAG Adv Nick Colaco gave the welcome address. Barbara D’Mello read out the minutes of the previous meeting and the same were approved by the general body. Treasurer Nelson Figueiredo placed the annual audited accounts of CAG to the members.
