PANAJI: As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada observance, the staff of the National Centre for Polar & Ocean Research (NCPOR), Mormugao, actively participated in a range of cleanliness and awareness activities. Plastic waste was collected across the campus under the Shramdaan initiative, while the Swachhata ki Bhagidari campaign included clean-up drives in offices, laboratories and India’s research stations in Antarctica, the Arctic and the Himalayas. Creative talents were showcased through innovative exhibits made from plastic waste.
The Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir programme honoured housekeeping and garden maintenance staff for their dedication. A Swachhata kit was presented to New Dawn Ashadeep Special School, Sada. Awareness-building events included a quiz on waste management and an elocution competition on reducing plastic use in daily life. Expert talks were delivered by Mr Prasad N. Nayak, IT Consultant, Mormugao Port Authority, on e-waste, and by Dr Shobha Parsekar, Assistant Professor of Microbiology at GMC, on personal hygiene. The fortnight concluded with a prize distribution ceremony presided over by NCPOR Director, Dr Thamban Meloth.
