PANAJI: Vedanta Sesa Goa’s Bicholim iron ore mine has bagged the second prize for ‘Overall Performance in Fully Mechanised Iron Ore Mines’ at the 13th Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week Awards in Belagavi, organised by the Indian Bureau of Mines.
The mine’s use of EV wheel loaders, new generation vehicles and slope safety radar helped it achieve safe and sustainable operations within 14 months of its restart as Goa’s first auctioned and operational iron ore mine.
It also won first prizes for environment monitoring, sustainable development, publicity and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and second prize for waste dump management and scientific development. The Bicholim mine has also been declared a ‘TB-Free Worksite’ under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme.
Navin Jaju, CEO of Sesa Goa, said the awards showed the company’s commitment to sustainable mining with the latest technology and strong safety practices.
