Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday launched a new scheme by which unemployed youth will get free CNG vehicles to operate as taxis under the cab aggregator GoaMiles.

Sawant handed over 55 CNG taxis to the first beneficiaries hailing from Pernem under the new Transport Entrepreneurs Scheme (TES) which he referred to as 'Goencho Taxi Patrao'.

The scheme, which is aimed at encouraging unemployed youth to operate app-based taxis under GoaMiles, will require zero investment. The margin money is to be paid by GoaMiles.

Sawant also asked the promoters to introduce 1,000 such taxis under the scheme. Unemployed youth who already own a car and want to be associated with the aggregator can also operate the vehicle under the TES, Sawant said.

Sawant also claimed that GMR, the concessionaire of the new Manohar International Airport at Mopa, has already provided 1,300 jobs to locals.

He also said that with flights gradually increasing at Mopa and negligible impact on operations at Dabolim, the fear of closure of the airport in South Goa has also been proved wrong.
