VASCO
The Aam Aadmi Party’s Vasco unit has strongly condemned the Mormugao Port Authority’s (MPA) decision to close the overbridge connecting Baina to Vasco, calling it an “ill-conceived” move that will severely inconvenience thousands of daily commuters.
In a statement issued on Friday, AAP leader Adv Sunil Loran criticised the MPA for acting unilaterally without consulting local authorities or the public.
“This overbridge is a lifeline for hundreds of people. Its closure will cause immense hardship to the common man,” said Loran. “The MPA’s actions reflect a blatant disregard for local authorities and the democratic process. They are acting as a law unto themselves.”
The party alleged that the MPA’s decision lacked consideration for the daily struggles faced by the residents of Baina and Vasco and accused the authority of bypassing elected bodies in the region.
“We demand that the MPA immediately reconsider this decision and find a solution that causes the least disruption to the public,” Loran said.
“They must engage with local authorities and citizens before making any decisions that affect the community.”
The Aam Aadmi Party affirmed its support for the people of Vasco and Baina and pledged to continue raising the issue until a reasonable and citizen-friendly solution is achieved.
