A movable toilet now accompanies the Vari (walking pilgrimage) of Vithal Rakhumai Mauli Varkari Mandal, Canacona on its way to Pandharpur-Maharashtra.
The Varkari of Vithal Rakhumai Mauli Varkari Mandal, who are midway into their journey with around 98 men and women walking to Pandharpur, had been inconvenienced due to non-availability of toilet facilities along the way and had to undergo through unhygienic practices in answering nature’s call.
A western style three-toilet mobile facility on a cart and attached to a vehicle has been made available for the benefit of the Varkaris on the 8th day of the scheduled 17-day walking pilgrimage.
The toilets have sufficient provision for water, besides a detachable and disposable septic tank facility.
Around 250 varkaris in two different groups of the Vithal Rakhumai Mauli Varkari Mandal and Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli Varkari Mandal, Rajbhag-Canacona left Canacona on June 20.
It is learnt that few of the mauli Varkaris had initially participated but discontinued their journey, while a few others have been regularly joining the Varkari with food and other provisions for a day or day as the Varkari on an average daily walks between 25-30 kilometres with a lunch halt and a halt for the night and will cover around 420 kms in 17 days to reach the destination at Pandharpur on the day of Ekadeshi.
