PANAJI: Two prominent figures from India’s Sepak Takraw community were killed in a road accident in Goa early this morning after a speeding tanker lost control, crossed the divider, and crashed into their rented car coming from the opposite direction.

Police identified the victims as 42-year-old Yogender Singh, President of the All India Sepak Takraw Association and a resident of Delhi, and 34-year-old Ankit Kumar Baliyan, a senior Sepak Takraw player from Uttar Pradesh. Both died on the spot. The accident took place on NH66, Bambolim

The tanker driver, 37-year-old Rahul Sarwade, has been arrested and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Police said his rash driving caused the tanker to jump the median and collide head-on with the Maruti Ignis driven by Singh.

Goa Police said arrest formalities are underway, and an investigation is in progress.
