Following a rigorous evaluation by an expert committee chaired by Dr Anil Kakodkar, Dr Gautam was chosen as the final recipient. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a citation. The formal presentation of the award will take place during the Manohar Parrikar Vigyan Mahotsav in December 2025.

The third ‘Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award’ 2025, instituted by the Goa government will be presented to Dr Sai Gautam Gopalakrishnan, Associate Professor of the Department of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, next month.
Gautam, who leads an active research group in computational materials science, has been recognised for his outstanding scientific contributions and leadership in the field. This is the third edition of the prestigious national award, which continues to attract applications from some of the country’s most eminent research institutions. Out of 50 applicants, 10 were shortlisted for a personal interview.
