Angry locals stop digging of road near Morjim p'yat

Angry locals on Saturday stopped road-digging work near the Morjim panchayat office. Locals had claimed these works were going on despite directives from North Goa authorities that no road-digging works would be permitted after May 15.

They stated that construction of residential villas is underway in the area and were upset to find a portion of the road being excavated.

They accused the builder of violating the directives of North Goa authorities and going ahead with the road-digging work on Saturday when government offices are closed.

A group of locals then went to the site and stopped the road-digging work.

When contacted, Morjim Sarpanch Pawan Morje said he could not take immediate action as he was busy for two days on account of an accident, but said he would look into the matter on Monday and take appropriate action.
