Dozens of tourist taxi drivers from Anjuna marched to the Anjuna police station on Friday to demand action against a Vasco-based taxi driver, after accusing him of running an illegal app-based taxi business and for abusing and threatening local taxi drivers.
The taxi drivers under the banner of Caisua-Anjuna-Vagator Taxi Association filed a police complaint stating that the Vasco taxi driver had abused and threatened a local taxi driver on social media after he raised the issue of aggregator taxis operating in Goa.
They also claimed that the Vasco taxi driver has been targetting other taxi operators elsewhere in the State.
Vasco Police Inspector Suraj Gawas assured the agitating taxi drivers that police would look into the matter and take necessary action.
Later speaking to reporters, the taxi drivers said the State government should offer the same rate to all taxis services in Goa – Goa Taxi App, GoaMiles and private tourist taxis – as is being offered to the Goa Taxi App and GoaMiles. A difference in the rates is causing conflict among taxi drivers, they claimed.
Taxi leaders Yogesh Govekar, Bappa Korgaonkar, Rohan Kandolkar, Carlos Fernandes and Poojan Malvankar were among those present at the police station.
