Stolen gold recovered from Pune
BICHOLIM
Police have arrested two men in connection with a chain-snatching incident that took place in Bicholim in December 2024 and recovered the stolen gold from Pune.
On December 5, 2024, at around 12.15 pm in Bhamai Pale, two unidentified men on a black motorcycle allegedly snatched a gold mangalsutra weighing 40 grams and a gold ‘daul’ weighing 12 grams, worth about Rs 2.2 lakh, from the neck of a 43-year-old woman. The case was registered at Bicholim police station under Section 304 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police found that the accused — Abbas Aslam Jaidi (34) of Thane, Maharashtra, and Sharif Shaha Samsher Shaha (35) of Nashik, Maharashtra — had been arrested earlier by Old Goa police in another case. They were brought to Bicholim on a body warrant from the JMFC Mapusa Court on August 5, 2025, and placed in seven days’ police custody.
Police said the two confessed to having sold the stolen jewellery in Shivaji Nagar, Pune. On October 8, 2025, a Bicholim police team led by PSI Krishna Gawas and PSI Rashmir Parab Matonkar, under the supervision of PI Vijay Rane Sardesai, SDPO Wilson Dsouza and SP North Rahul Gupta, went to Pune and recovered the mangalsutra. Further investigation is underway.
