CANACONA
In a major heist, thieves broke into an unoccupied house at Shingale-Ponsulem, Canacona, and decamped with gold jewellery worth over Rs 15 lakh.
Owner Mikhila Fernandes, who lives in Margao and occasionally visited the house in Ponsulem, was alerted by a neighbour on Sunday morning after broken locks were spotted on the gate and main door.
Fernandes rushed to the house only to find it ransacked, with cupboards damaged and jewellery missing.
Fernandes filed a complaint at the Canacona police station. Canacona police pressed a dog squad into service and have also reviewed CCTV footage from the neighbourhood.
Though the exact time of the break-in is unknown, it is suspected that the incident occurred sometime between Saturday night and Sunday. Further investigation is being conducted by Canacona police.
