Chinchinim-Deussa goes green with large-scale cashew plantation

In a significant step towards environmental conservation and sustainable development, the Village Panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussa successfully organised a cashew plantation drive at Santmoddi Hillock, Chinchinim.

The event witnessed the planting of around 500 cashew saplings, marking a strong commitment to preserving biodiversity and promoting eco-friendly practices in the region.

The initiative was undertaken in association with the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) under the Chairmanship of Deviya Rane, the Comunidade of Chinchinim, and the Biodiversity Committee of Chinchinim also took part. The collective efforts of these bodies, along with enthusiastic participation from local residents, MLA Cruz Silva, panch members made this drive a resounding success.

MLA Cruz Silva appreciated the panchayat initiative for holding various programmes and his support for the panchayat for overall development of the village and thanked Deviya Rane for supporting the panchayat in his Velim constituency for cashew plantation.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch Frank Viegas emphasised the importance of cashew cultivation in Goa’s agrarian and economic landscape, while also highlighting its environmental benefits, and to make our village clean and green to protect and preserve its rich biodiversity.

Range forest officer Bipin Faldessai said the Santmoddi Hillock site was chosen for its suitability for cashew growth and its potential to transform into a lush green space benefiting both the local community and the ecosystem.
