BJP’s Reis Magos Zilla Panchayat member Reshma Bandodkar and Honda ZP member Namdev Chari are all set to be elected unopposed as the North Goa Zilla Panchayat chairperson and vice-chairperson, respectively, after single nominations were filed for both posts on Monday.
Bandodkar and Chari submitted their nomination papers before the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the North Goa Zilla Panchayat. The CEO later confirmed that only one nomination each had been received for the two posts. The election for the posts is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, December 30.
Bandodkar, who was elected from the Reis Magos constituency, secured 7,162 votes in the recently concluded Zilla Panchayat elections. Chari, representing Honda, registered a decisive victory by polling a historic 11,751 votes. BJP-MGP alliance won a total 19 seats out of 25 in North Goa, of which BJP candidates got elected in 18 seats.
The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected chairperson and vice-chairperson is slated for December 31. However, they are expected to formally assume charge only on January 8, as the tenure of the existing Zilla Panchayat body ends on January 7.
