Amid increasing incidents of stray dog menace particularly on beaches, Bollywood actor Rayya Labib and two foreign tourists were recently injured.
Labib sustained injuries during a stroll on Colva Beach, while a Russian woman was bitten by five dogs and a Canadian woman was attacked by four dogs at Benaulim Beach.
Drishti Marine personnel quickly provided assistance and rushed the injured to receive medical care. These incidents are part of a growing number of stray dog attacks affecting both locals and tourists over the past two months, Drishti stated.
In April and May 2024, three of their lifesavers were bitten while on duty. Roshan Patil was attacked at Betalbatim Beach on May 22, Sarvesh Tandial at Calangute Beach on May 21, and Sashikant Jadhav was bitten three times at Mandrem Beach the previous weekend. All received medical treatment.
"Benaulim and Colva beaches are hotspots for these attacks. In May, a 24-year-old Russian woman was bitten while cycling at Benaulim, and a local woman from Loutolim was bitten multiple times. A senior citizen escaped unscathed after being chased by dogs during a morning run at Colva Beach," the agency said.
