Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Tuesday said Vasco is set to undergo a major transformation over the next two years with the implementation of Smart City projects worth Rs 140 crore aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving civic amenities in the port town.

Addressing a news conference along with Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker and councillors, Salkar said the government has sanctioned substantial funds under the Smart City initiative to revamp key facilities and enhance the overall appearance of Vasco.

Salkar said several development works are planned as part of the project, including the demolition of old and dilapidated buildings and their reconstruction into modern structures that will better serve the needs of residents.

He added that efforts are also underway to improve the city’s civic infrastructure and public facilities.

Among the major projects proposed is the construction of a modern market complex that will include a dedicated fruit and vegetable market to provide better space and facilities for vendors and shoppers.

Plans are also in place to develop an international-level bus stand in Vasco to improve transport connectivity and commuter convenience.

He said the railway station will also see upgrades, while a sports complex is proposed to promote sporting activities and provide better facilities for youth in the constituency.

Salkar further said the Smart City initiative will focus on improving the overall look of Vasco by introducing uniform painting of buildings and enhancing basic civic amenities across the town. The objective, he said, is to create a cleaner, well-organised and visually appealing urban space.

“Vasco will witness significant changes in the coming years with the implementation of these projects. The aim is to modernise infrastructure, strengthen public facilities and improve the quality of life for residents,” Salkar said.

He added that the initiatives are expected to strengthen Vasco’s economy and position the port town as a more organised and modern urban centre in the region.

Salkar said the government is committed to ensuring that the projects are executed effectively so that residents benefit from improved infrastructure and better civic amenities in the coming years.
