The government has directed all sewage tankers operating in the State to register with the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation by June 21, failing which they will not be permitted to operate at State run sewerage treatment plants (STPs).
Under Secretary Finance Pranab Bhat in a notification issued has also asked the tankers unloading sewage in STPs to have a Mustard Yellow colour while those transporting treated sewage water from STPs are painted in green.
“All sewage tankers operating in the State of Goa shall be mandatorily registered with Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd. with payment of one time fees of Rs 5000,” Bhat said.
He said that if the tankers are already registered with various STPs and unloading sewage in STPs, then they should be painted in “mustard yellow” colour and shall have “sewage tanker” written on both sides and front of the tanker.
Similarly, tankers used for conveyance of treated sewage water from STPs for non potable use shall be painted “green” with “treated sewage tanker” written on both sides and in front of the tanker.
“All concerned are requested to meet the above requirements by June 21, failing which, sewage tankers and treated sewage tankers shall not be allowed in STPs without registration and colour coding assigned for the vehicle,” he said.
