PANAJI
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has announced an alliance with the “Ami Panaji” panel floated by Utpal Parrikar for the upcoming City Corporation of Panaji elections scheduled on March 11.
The Congress’ Panaji and Taleigao block committees, at a meeting held on Wednesday, resolved to extend support to the Ami Panaji panel, which has projected former mayor Surendra Furtado as its mayoral face.
Addressing the media after the meeting, GPCC president Amit Patkar said the party had decided to back the Ami Panaji panel to take on the BJP-supported slate.
“It is very important that all like-minded individuals and political parties come together to oust the BJP in Panaji,” he said.
Patkar added that discussions are underway regarding seat-sharing arrangements in Panaji and Taleigao wards.
“We have sought a few seats in both Panaji and Taleigao. The final negotiations are ongoing, and by tomorrow (Thursday), the panel is expected to announce its candidates,” he said.
The Congress, he said, has already finalised its nominees for the identified wards and will actively campaign across all 30 wards of the Corporation.
