Appealing GMC doctors to call-off their strike, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday expressed his willingness to apologise in public.

As doctors resorted to strike demanding a public apology from Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and threatened to disrupt all services from Tuesday, Sawant held a meeting with GMC Dean, Medical Superintendent, CMO Dr Rudresh Kuttikar and GARD members.

Speaking to media post meeting, Sawant said that he has accepted all their demands.

"Minister has already apologised. I have told them that I am willing to visit them at GMC in the casualty ward and apologise to Dr Kuttikar and also entire medical fraternity. I am ready to come before the media and apologise," Sawant said.

The Chief Minister said he has requested doctors to end the issue as the government has high respect for doctors and will do everything possible to protect their dignity.

Earlier, GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said CM had agreed to almost all the demands put forth by GARD and expressed his willingness to visit the casualty tomorrow to speak with doctors.

"Nothing was discussed regarding the Health Minister visiting the casualty and apologising," he said.

Dean to file complaint

against cameraman

Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Shivanand Bandekar announced that he will be filing a complaint at Agassaim Police Station seeking registration of an FIR against the cameraman who carried out videography in a prohibited area during Health Minister Vishwajit Rane’s visit on June 7.

The assurance came following demand from GARD that videography should be banned and action should be taken against those who filmed the incident in the patient care area.

Dr Bandekar also accepted the demand of the striking doctors to end VIP culture at GMC and assured that Standard Operating Procedures will be implemented to regulate this.
