PANAJI: Mapusa Police on Tuesday detained two migrant workers from Odisha for allegedly murdering a fellow worker at a construction site in Fondac Vaddo, Parra, in the North coastal belt.
The accused are identified as Satya Nabarangpura (50) and his son Thabir (31).
The victim, also believed to be from Odisha, was found lying in a pool of blood inside a residential hut at the site around 10 pm on Monday. His throat had been slit and his genitals mutilated. Police said he had also been assaulted with an iron rod and stabbed in the head and other parts of the body, resulting in death due to excessive bleeding.
The murder came to light after the site supervisor, concerned about an earlier altercation among the workers, sent another labourer to check on them. Upon discovering the body, an ambulance was called, and the victim was rushed to the Mapusa District Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The suspects had fled the scene but were later apprehended by Mapusa police while hiding in a nearby field.
All three men had been brought to the construction site just four to five days earlier and were living together in a hut. Neither the contractor nor the other workers were familiar with their full identities, but all were believed to be from Odisha.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
