A team of South Goa Division of Forest Department conducted a raid and seized illegal timber (teak wood and bhendi wood) at Curtorim valued at around Rs 6 lakh.
The team conducted the search operations and managed to detect the stack of illegal timber in a private property at Curtorim. The same was then seized and brought to the Forest Timber Depot at Forest Colony Aquem-Margao.
The seized material includes 76 numbers of teak wood logs admeasuring 6.25 cubic metres and two poles. Another stack comprised 21 logs of bhendi wood admeasuring 3.22 cubic metres.
The market value of the timber is estimated to be around Rs 6 lakh.
A case for illegal stacking /transport/felling has been booked in range office mobile squad Margao against unknown persons and further inquiry is in progress.
