French national and culinary professor found dead in Goa hotel

A 64-year-old French national, Patrick Albert, was found dead in a hotel room in Verna this afternoon.

According to Verna Police, the incident came to light after the Police Control Room in Margao received a call alerting them that a man was lying unresponsive on a bed at the Maharaja hotel. A team from the Verna Police Station rushed to the scene and found Albert motionless in his room.

Albert, who had been residing at the hotel for the past three years, was immediately shifted to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao, where he was declared brought dead.

Initial inquiries revealed that Albert was a professor and head chef at the Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts in Nagao, Verna. He had been living alone at the hotel, under the care of two caretakers. Around 12 noon today, the caretakers found him unresponsive and raised an alarm. Locals promptly contacted the 108 emergency ambulance service and the police.

Verna Police later conducted a scene panchanama and inventory proceedings. The body has been preserved at the South Goa District Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Further investigations are being conducted.
