Advocate Sanjay Francis D’Cruz, a native of Uccassaim in Goa, has been unanimously elected as president of the Kolhapur District Co-operative Bar Association.
The election was held on Tuesday in the Bar Room of the Kolhapur Co-operative Court.
Adv. D’Cruz completed his primary education in Gadhinglaj, pursued his LLB in Kolhapur, and went on to build a career in the legal field with a special focus on the co-operative sector.
Over a span of 25 years, he has served as a legal advisor to various leading co-operative institutions in Kolhapur, including the apex cooperative banks in the region.
At the age of just 51, Adv D’Cruz has earned widespread respect in the legal fraternity of Kolhapur and is especially celebrated by the Konkani-speaking community, who consider his election a matter of pride.
Despite the dominance of the Maratha community in Kolhapur district, which often results in under-representation of minorities, Adv. D’Cruz has carved a niche for himself through consistent and committed service in the legal field.
Apart from his advisory roles, he holds important positions in various organisations and is also known for his popular writings in Konkani and Marathi.
This election marks a historic moment as Adv. D’Cruz becomes only the second Konkani-origin lawyer to be elected to a top district-level bar association in Kolhapur. Many years ago, late Adv. J.J. Bardeskar, with his ancestral roots in Goa had served as president of the Kolhapur District Bar Association.
Following his victory, members of the Bar Association warmly congratulated Adv. D’Cruz, who will now serve a two-year term as president.
