The Goa Entertainment Association has fully supported the motion moved by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai in the Assembly session to extend the permissible time for music performances to 1 am.

The Association has appreciated Sardesai, along with Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Nilesh Cabral, Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira, and Michael Lobo, for raising this issue.

“This proposal, which seeks to align our regulations with those successfully implemented in cities like Bangalore, is a significant and positive step for Goa's entertainment and tourism industries,” stated Association President Herschel Mascarenhas.

He said, “The current restrictions on music timings of 10 pm, while intended to address concerns about noise pollution, have created a considerable disadvantage for local businesses. By extending the operational hours, we can boost economic activity, generate more employment opportunities and revenue for the state of Goa, and enhance Goa's reputation as a vibrant and attractive destination for tourists. We believe this move will allow our establishments to compete on a level playing field with other popular tourist destinations.”

He added, “We are also encouraged by Minister Alex Sequeira's recent statement that the government is contemplating filing a review petition in the Supreme Court against its order on sound pollution. This proactive stance demonstrates the government's commitment to finding a balanced solution that respects both the need for peace and the economic realities of our state.”

Mascarenhas said the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s commitment to finding a workable solution is a testament to his understanding of the challenges facing the industry and his dedication to ensuring Goa's continued growth and prosperity.
