Goa’s freedom came at a heavy price, HM Amit Shah reminds on Goa Liberation Day

PANAJI:  Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his best wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day today, paying tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices led to the state’s integration with India in 1961.

In his message on X, Shah said the present generation may not be fully aware that Indians had to obtain special permission to visit Goa before its liberation. He recalled the role played by leaders such as Prabhakar Vaidya, Bala Raya Mapari, Nanaji Deshmukh, and Jagannath Rao Joshi, who stood firmly against Portuguese rule and actively participated in the liberation movement.

“After immense sacrifices made by our patriots, Goa finally became an integral part of India,” the Union Home Minister said, bowing in gratitude to those who endured suffering and hardship for the state’s freedom.
