Goan filmmaker Talak to head Ravindra Bhavan

Noted Goan filmmaker Rajendra Talak will head the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao as its Chairman after the government finally filled up the post, lying vacant over the last one year.

Fatorda BJP Block Mandal president, Manohar Borkar has been appointed the vice-Chairperson.

Expressing his gratitude to Chief  Minister Pramod Sawant, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gawde, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, besides former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, Talak said he would give his best and try to do justice to the job. “Expectations will be high from art and culture fans from me and my new team. We will take everyone  along  and do justice to the job”, Talak told The Goan .

Talak is expected to assume office on Monday after receiving the order of his appointment officially on Friday. ‘The CM, Art and Culture Minister,  the Margao MLA and Damu Naik have reposed their faith in me. I will discharge my duties to the best of my abilities,” he said.

In another order, the Art and Culture Director, Shagun Velip has also constituted the Ravindra Bhavan General Council with immediate effect.

Members of the General Council included Umesh Bandodkar (Fatorda), Mahesh Konekar (Mardol), Paresh Naik (Davorlim), Milagrin Gomes (Fatorda), Shweta Lotlikar (Fatorda), Anil Pail (Margao), Nitin Prabhudesai (Margao), Savio Mascarenhas (Margao), Gopal Naik (Margao) and Dhananjay Mayekar (Margao).

The post of chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao had been lying vacant since the last one year. While it was speculated in political circles that the position might go to BJP leader Damu Naik, the former Fatorda MLA had politely declined to accept the position.

Incidentally, Rajendra Talak has been closely associated with Art and Culture, being involved in film making and his close association with Kalangan, the centre for performing arts. Sources pointed out that Talak had headed the BJP-backed Vibrant Margao as its convenor when the panel had fought the 2021 Margao civic polls.
