Close to 4,800 candidates will appear for the second Goa Teacher Eligibility Test (GTET), which will be conducted on Monday by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) at two centres.
As per details by the Board, the test will be held at Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim, and St Xavier Higher Secondary School, Mapusa examination centres.
At Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim, as many as 2,208 candidates are registered, covering 2,371 ‘count of exams.’ Of these, 842 candidates are appearing for Paper I (Classes I to V), while 1,203 are registered for Paper II (Classes VI to VIII). The eligibility for Paper 1 is D.Ed while Paper II is B.Ed.
Another 163 candidates have opted to appear for both papers. Female candidates make up an overwhelming majority across all categories at the centre.
St Xavier Higher Secondary School, Mapusa, will have 2,591 candidates with a total of 2,758 ‘count of exams.’ Here, 1,114 candidates are appearing for Paper I, 1,310 for Paper II, and 167 for both papers. Women also account for the bulk of examinees at this centre.
The GTET is a mandatory qualification for candidates seeking government teaching posts in Goa. Clearing the eligibility test is a prerequisite for applying for teaching positions at the primary and upper-primary levels, as per norms laid down by the State education authorities.
