A fortnight after an uncharacteristic foray in the uncharted field of politics left a bitter taste in their mouths, Goa's prominent business house, the Dempo group, achieved a feather in its cap of sorts in more familiar ground -- business and commerce.

Gcarb+, an innovative product developed and launched last week by Goa Carbon Limited, the group's listed company, has got a spectacular reception from beneficiary industry and significantly boosted the value of the company's scrip on the stock exchanges.

The company launched the branded product on Thursday last and the development had an immediate impact on the scrip's price, starting to trade at a 11% jump on the BSE at Rs 872.25. However some of the sheen of the share price was pared as trading on the bourse progressed but the stock still ended the day above 6% in the green.

Dempo group chairman, Shrinivas Dempo, launched the branded product and also unveiled the logo with Goa Carbon Ltd's executive director Arun Mishra.

The company in a press release quoted Dempo as saying at the launch: "The introduction of 'gcarb+' signifies the company’s dedication to innovation and market excellence, aligning with its vision to offer holistic carbon solutions and value-added services beyond CPC supply."

It said, the product also promises high-quality performance, ensuring low sulphur content to reduce emissions and support environmental sustainability.

Industry sources, meanwhile, have rated the product to have the potential to revolutionise the recarburiser and carbon additive sectors, primarily steel and foundry industries.

Earlier, in the runup to the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, both industry and political circles were left stunned when Pallavi Dempo, the wife of Shrinivas Dempo, became the official candidate of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the South Goa seat, despite being a rank 'outsider' in politics.

She was the third richest candidate in the fray during the general elections across India but eventually lost, albeit narrowly (13000-odd votes margin), to Congress' Captain Viriato Fernandes, but not before emerging as one of the BJP's star candidates with Prime Minister Narendra Modi even addressing his solitary rally in Goa in her constituency.

Post her defeat, Dempo said that she "humbly accepted" the verdict of the people of South Goa and that she would continue her engagement in public life.
