ISRO chairman to deliver lecture on Feb 26

Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Dr S Somanath will once again be in Goa to deliver a public lecture on Scientific and Explorations Missions at a national symposium scheduled on February 26.

The National Space Science Symposium (NSSS) 2024, organized by Goa University in collaboration with ISRO will hold scientific sessions for professionals and research students working in the area of space science and allied areas.

“A Public lecture by Dr S Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, and Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India on the theme “Scientific and Explorations Missions: Opportunities for Science Communities in India” is arranged on February 26, 2024, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium,” reads a press release by the organizers.

Dr Somnath was in Goa last December to address the 5th edition of Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav 2023 at Dona Paula when he revealed ISRO’s further plans to indigenously develop the environmental control and life support system (ECLSS) for the upcoming human space flight mission Gaganyaan.

Meanwhile, for the upcoming symposium, public lectures will also be held on various themes like Viewing the Earth from Space: Benefits for Humanity, Impacts of Climate Change on Indian Monsoons; and Indian Lunar Missions on February 27, 28, and 29 February respectively at 4 Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim; Ravindra Bhavan, Margao; and Rajeev Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda. Former ISO Chairman and scientists including Padmashri awardees in their respective fields will speak on their subjects.

Exhibition Stalls will also be displayed at Goa Business School, GU while Exhibition on Wheels will be held at Manohar Parrikar School of Law GU from February 26 to March 1. “The exhibition displays important space science technology and the milestones achieved by ISRO. There will also be private/industry participants who are associated with the National Space Science mission and will display innovative contributions in supporting the Indian Space Science program. Students and the general public can participate in the exhibition and outreach events,” it said.
