Jharkhand man held for duping woman in cyber fraud case

Bicholim police managed to crack a cyber fraud case in which a woman from Sanquelim was duped of Rs 44,340 and arrested a man from Jamtara in  Jharkhand said to be involved in over 50 cases. 

In the case of the Sanquelim woman, the fraudster had posed as an official from Tata Sky and contacted her using two different cell phone numbers and managed to convince her to share banking credentials. 

He faked that he was re-charging her Tata Sky pack and then fraudulently transferred the amount from her bank account. 

Police said the accused, Pradeip Kumar Mandal (24), is a resident of Jamtara, Jharkhand, and is allegedly involved in over 50 similar cyber fraud cases across India.

Meanwhile, Cyber Crime cell of Goa Police also arrested a teenager from Punjab in connection with a Rs 18 lakh digital arrest scam. 

The accused, Surinder Kumar of Ludhiana allegedly posed as a CBI official and duped the victim from Goa claiming that the person's bank details were linked to money laundering. 

The fraud had occurred on June 3 via WhatsApp and a Goa police team tracked and nabbed the accused in Punjab. He has been remanded to four days’ custody.
