Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) employees on Friday held a gate meeting at the Margao depot in view of the five-day dharna organised at the Azad Maidan, Panjim from March 23 in support of their charter of demands, including payment of arrears of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
President of AITUC Chandrakant Chodankar told the media after the meeting that the KTC drivers and conductors will participate in the five-day dharna without paralysing the bus services.
Referring to the Central Government’s decision to implement the 8th Pay Commission recommendations from April, Chodankar said that the KTC employees are yet to receive the arrears of the 7th Pay Commission till date.
That’s not all. He said the union has placed a demand with the government to procure 300 new diesel buses in the coming financial year. He further demanded that the KTC fill up the posts of mechanics left vacant for a long time now.
Another long-pending demand raised by the union is the regularisation of drivers and conductors despite completing eight years of service. “The employees will participate in the dharna without stopping the bus service. They will join the dharna during off-duty hours,” he added.
