A woman from Cortalim has accused a man of exploiting her on the false promise of marriage, repeatedly subjecting her to sexual assault and cheating her of a large sum of money, before allegedly forcing an abortion with the help of his brother.

According to the complaint, the incident reportedly occurred prior to August 22, 2025, when the accused, Deepak, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had befriended the complainant and allegedly promised to marry her.

Under that assurance, he had borrowed a total of Rs 4 lakh from her in multiple sums on different occasions.

The complainant stated that during this period, the accused repeatedly had forcible sexual intercourse with her under the pretext of marriage. She further alleged that after taking the money and continuing the relationship, the accused eventually refused to marry her.

The complaint further alleged that the brother of the accused acted in criminal conspiracy with the main accused. The brother allegedly gave the woman milk mixed with abortion medicine in order to prevent her from becoming pregnant, without her consent.

Acting on the complaint, Verna police have registered an offence under Sections 91, 64(2)(m), 61(2) and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Pramila Fernandes of Verna police station, under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
