Fish vendors have decided to shut down the Mapusa fish market on April 10, as a mark of solidarity after five fish vendors have received summons in connection with a dispute.
According to sources, a dispute arose recently between a seller and a person in the fish market in the Mapusa fish market, with both parties filing counter complaints against each other with the police. Mapusa police referred the case to the Deputy Collector, who sent summons to both parties for a hearing on on April 10.
Summons were issued to five fish vendors on Saturday, prompting outrage among other fish vendors in the market on Saturday. They have decided to keep the fish market closed the entire day on April 10 and all fish vendors will go to the Deputy Collector’s office.
