The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has said it will contest the Zilla Panchayat elections expected to be held later this year-end in a "trusted and strategic" alliance with the ruling party.
Power Minister and MGP leader Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar made the announcement while speaking to the media at the State Secretariat even as he batted for a united front by the two parties.
“In the spirit of the alliance and guided by the developmental vision initiated by the late Manohar Parrikar, we will soon hold a meeting with the BJP leadership to finalize the joint strategy for the ZP polls," Dhavlikar said, adding that the objective will be to strengthen governance at the grassroot and reach out to every citizen.
He said candidate selection and campaign planning will be a collaborative effort between the two parties. “The people of Goa have seen what the alliance can deliver, and now we have to take it to the village level,” Dhavlikar said.
