MPT is now MPA as new Ports Act comes into force

Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) will now be named as Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) after the Major Ports Authorities Act, 2021, came into force. 

According to a letter issued by T K Hazra Choudhary, Secretary of the General Administration Department of Mormugao Port to departments headed by Deputy Conservator, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Chief Engineer, Traffic Manager and Chief Medical Officer on Friday, the existing board has already ceased to exist from January 28. 

“It has been informed that Rajiv Nayan, under secretary (PHRD), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W) through an email has forwarded the notification issued by Vikram Singh, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, MoPS&W, regarding the constitution of the board of Mormugao Port under the Major Ports Authorities Act, 2021,” said the letter. 

“In pursuance of sub-section 1 of section 3 of Major Port Authorities Act, 2021, the central government has constituted a new board of MPA for Mormugao Port. Hence the existing board constituted under the Major Ports Trust Act 1963 ceased to exist from January 28. The name of MPT has now been changed to MPA,” said the letter. 

 “All heads of departments are requested to initiate necessary action for making appropriate changes in the nomenclature of the port and also effect necessary changes in the relevant documents, papers, letterheads and also inform the changes to authorities and stakeholders. The chief engineer has been requested to take necessary action to replace the name boards affixed in port areas from MPT to MPA “ said the letter.
