CANACONA
The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on Saturday unanimously resolved to disconnect electricity and water connections to those houses which have not paid house taxes.
The council was informed that there are about 5,000 registered houses in Canacona municipality. Of these, only 30 percent of the houses are regularly paying their house taxes and almost 70 percent of the houses have been in arrears for over five years despite being issued repeated notices.
It is stated that seven surveys were conducted to increase the house rent of some houses by just Rs 100 per year and that there is urgent need to increase it.
A resolution was passed at the council meeting to disconnect the electricity and water connections of such house owners and it was demanded that the administration initiates immediate action in the matter.
